Physical Education at Greenfields
At Greenfields, we recognise the positive outcomes that a high-quality PE and school sport curriculum can achieve in all personal, social, cognitive and physical aspects of a child’s development and well-being. We aim to embed a culture of participation, enjoyment and achievement in sport, whilst building an understanding of health and well-being in our pupils that they continue to follow throughout their lives. The positive values that children learn through sports, such as fairness and respect are fully integrated into the school ethos and our PE curriculum ensures that pupils of all abilities have access to all the activities we offer in order to encourage them to lead healthy, active lives. Our school sport programme offers a wide array of activities and extensive opportunities for participation in both intra and inter-school competitions and we are currently looking at creating more opportunities for leadership, officiating and reporting.
The PE curriculum is delivered by Crossbar Coaching who specialise in PE & School Sport provision across the national curriculum as well as alternative sports such as Dance, Dodgeball, Ultimate Frisbee and more.
National Curriculum Aims 2014:
- Pupils have the ability to be physically active for sustained periods of time.
- Pupils to be able to engage in competitive sports and activities.
- Pupils to be supported to lead healthy and active lifestyles.
- Competent pupils are able to excel in a broad range of physical activities.
We are delighted to announce that the school has achieved the School Games Gold Award for its provision of sport for the third year running.
The award is a Government led scheme which rewards schools for their commitment to the development of PE. For more information on the School Games Mark click here.
Swimming and water safety is an extremely important part of the PE curriculum at Greenfields. Swimming lessons begin in Year 2 and continue all the way to Year 6, where pupils have the opportunity to consolidate their skills to ensure they meet the National Curriculum requirements.
At the end of each block of swimming lessons, pupils are assessed and receive an award based on how much progress they have made towards meeting the National Curriculum requirements.
